An ice cream vending truck
In a food vending truck ("mobile supermarket")

A vending cart is a mobile shop for selling goods, especially food . Its characteristic feature is mobility: in contrast to stationary trade in shops in buildings , vending vehicles can be moved to any location at short notice, parked there and later driven away again.

Function and use

Sales trolleys are therefore particularly suitable for supplying events such as fairs and folk festivals. It is also possible to operate several locations in one day.

Vending carts are common at fairground dealers (e.g. for selling clothes), showmen (e.g. sausage stall ) and rural food suppliers (e.g. mobile supermarket , mobile butcher shop). If food is sold, especially ice cream , then the vending carts usually have cooling devices .

Trailer as a sales car: mobile supermarket "Konsum"

species

One can differentiate between sales cars according to whether they are self-propelled (with their own engine) or as a trailer that requires a motor vehicle as a towing vehicle to move. In the past, trailers were often used as caravans converted into sales vehicles ; Self-driving sales vehicles are made by specialized commercial vehicle manufacturers, for example on the basis of small vans , trucks or buses .

The sales vehicle is a sales vehicle from DB Vertrieb GmbH , a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG .

Migros sales van

Migros

In the history of the Swiss Migros Cooperative , the sales vehicles played a decisive role from the start. The peak was reached in the mid-1960s with 144 pieces. Even in large cities with well-developed branches, they were used to supply more remote, densely populated areas well into the 1980s.

Today it has ceased operations, but Migros sales vehicles drove until the end of the 20th century. In 2007 their operation was finally given up in the canton of Valais. Today there is a copy in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne .

In 2009 it was decided to use the once popular sales car again for marketing purposes. So far (July 2017) it has been possible to buy back and renovate six of the last generation of the fleet from the already completely sold fleet, which are now used on special occasions and as a replacement for branches temporarily closed due to renovations.
