Adalbert Johannes Gail (born August 11, 1941 in Düren ) is a German Indologist and art historian

Life

After graduating as Dr. phil. in Munich in 1969 he was curator at the Museum of Indian Art in Berlin from 1972/1973 and professor of Indian art history at the Free University of Berlin from 1974 to 2006 . Since 1995 he has been Prof. hospes at the Charles University in Prague.

His main research interests are iconography (Buddhist and Hindu), Nepal, sculptures in Bangladesh and Buddhism in Orissa. He also deals with the Hinduism of the Khmer (Angkor).
