Society for ecological planning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for Ecological Planning eV (GÖP) is a non-profit nature conservation association based in Hamburg . It is the supervising association in thirteen of Hamburg's 34 nature reserves and operates the Elbe Tideauenzentrum, an extracurricular educational institution with a program of events and excursions.

history

The GÖP was founded in 1981 with the aim of putting a stop to the increasing destruction of nature and the environment and encouraging people to live in harmony with their natural environment. Since 1993 it has been a nature conservation association recognized under the Federal Nature Conservation Act. She is a member of the Hamburg Nature Conservation Working Group and, in this context, actively contributes to the thematically wide-ranging statements and nature conservation-political participation processes in Hamburg. In the beginning, the GÖP was based in the Boberger Niederung , a nature reserve in the east of Hamburg. In 2006 the head office moved to Wilhelmsburg , where the GÖP expanded its environmental education offer with the establishment of the Elbe Tideau Center.

tasks and goals

In addition to political environmental protection work, the focus of the GÖP has been on species and biotope protection since it was founded. In the period that followed, the GÖP concluded maintenance contracts with the environmental authorities and the districts on various nature reserves in Hamburg. In coordination with the nature conservation office or the nature conservation departments of the district offices, it carries out maintenance measures and development projects. In addition to the ongoing nature conservation work, she has gained experience in coordinating and managing larger projects.

natural reserve

In line with its founding goal, the GÖP is active in nature conservation and landscape management. It protects and preserves valuable habitats with their flora and fauna in Hamburg - especially in the freshwater tidal range . It looks after various nature reserves in Hamburg, partly in collaboration with other nature conservation associations, and implements landscape conservation measures and development projects. In addition, it also does the necessary environmental work. This involves, for example, taking part in statements on certain planning and approval procedures that affect nature and the landscape. In order to promote nature conservation in Hamburg, the GÖP relies on close cooperation with other nature conservation associations and committees in order to implement a common goal.

Environmental education

Environmental education is another focus of the GÖP's work. It would like to lay a foundation for the appreciation and respectful, sustainable treatment of nature and the environment, both for present and future generations. It is important to the GÖP that the participants experience and experience nature near the city with their senses. When imparting knowledge, the focus is on recognizing the uniqueness of nature on site. In doing so, the local does not remain in the spotlight, but an arc to global contexts is drawn and space is given to reflect on one's own actions and behavior. The peculiarity of the fresh water tide is taken up in the Elbe tide center. As a very special educational program, the Society for Ecological Planning eV offers teachers and their school classes an annual project with an integrative approach.
