Prospectus of the Öhninger organ in Fulda Cathedral (rearranged in the 19th century)

In the 17th century, the Schleich family made Öhninger's hometown Lohr am Main a formative center of organ building for the principal dioceses of Mainz , Würzburg and Bamberg and the Fulda monastery . After an apprenticeship, Öhninger entered the Franciscan monastery in Miltenberg . He led the construction of several organs, especially in Franciscan churches , for example in Dettelbach , Fulda ( cathedral ), Limburg an der Lahn ( town church ), Miltenberg, Mosbach ( Franciscan monastery ), Salmünster and Volkersberg .

None of Öhninger's organs have survived in their original condition. The original brochures are still available in Fulda and Limburg . The organ of the former Franciscan Church of St. Antonius in Worbis in Eichsfeld , which was once Electorate of Mainz , is attributed to Öhninger because of characteristic details. It was reconstructed close to the original in 2012 by the Waltershausen company according to the original disposition using still existing prospect pipes.
