from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adam Darr (* 1811 in Schweinfurt ; † October 10, 1866 in Augsburg ) was a German guitarist , composer and zither player .

Life

Little is known about Darr's childhood and adolescence. He grew up in his hometown Schweinfurt and initially achieved some fame as a guitarist. As a "guitar virtuoso" he played in numerous European countries and at 18 different courts. He worked as a music teacher in London and moved to Würzburg around 1840, later to Munich and Augsburg, where he died in 1866. Until the end of his life he worked as a music teacher and in his later years devoted himself increasingly to the zither.

plant

Compositions for solo guitar, guitar duo and solo zither have come down to us from Darr. Costello describes his guitar work as "one of the most expressive of the 19th century". Above all, however, his “Zitherschule” survived, and after his death it was re-edited in six issues by the Viennese philologist Adolf Wilhelm, among others . The Zitherschule is still available today in an arrangement by Gudrun Keller.
