Adam Elliot
Adam Benjamin Elliot (born January 2, 1972 in Berwick ) is an Australian animator , director and screenwriter . He won an Oscar in 2004 for his animated short film Harvie Krumpet . To date, his short films have been screened more than 600 times at film festivals around the world.
Life
Elliot grew up on a shrimp farm in the Australian outback . After the farm went bankrupt, the family moved to Melbourne . For five years Elliot painted T-shirts in a shopping mall in St Kilda . In 1996 he graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a degree in animation . During his student days he made the six-minute short film Uncle , for which he won prizes at the Australian Film Institute Awards and at several film festivals.
The films Cousin and Brother , which were made in 1999 and 2000, completed the trilogy and also won numerous prizes at the AFI Awards and various Australian and international film festivals.
In 2003, after a year of work, the 23-minute short film Harvie Krumpet was presented. The film, created using kneading technology and without computer animation, was awarded a prize at the 2004 Academy Awards in the category of best animated short film . Elliot has received awards for the film at more than 40 short and animated film festivals around the world. a. the Sundance Film Festival and three honors at the Festival d'Animation Annecy .
The film Mary & Max - or: Do sheep shrink when it rains? was the first feature film by Adam Elliot. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009 . The production of the film, which was shot in stop-motion technology, required five years of working time and a budget of more than 6 million euros. Also for this film, where u. a. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette took over the dubbing, Elliot again won numerous prizes, including best feature film in the AniMovie competition at the Stuttgart Animated Film Festival 2009. In addition to further awards in Annecy and by the AFI, a prize for best director at the Australian Directors Guild Awards .
