Adam Levin von Witzleben the Younger (* June 17, 1721 - † July 8, 1766 ), also called Adam Levin the Younger von Witzleben, came from the Thuringian noble family von Witzleben . He was a Danish officer , renovator of the manors Hude and Elmeloh and father of the poet Henriette Eleonore Agnes von Witzleben .

Life

Adam Levin von Witzleben was born the son of Christoph Burckhard von Witzleben and his wife Anna Theresia von Dorgelo . It was named after his uncle, the Danish court official Adam Levin von Witzleben (1688-1745). After completing his school education, he joined the Danish army . On April 30, 1743 he was appointed lieutenant in the Schleswig Regiment. On October 30, 1745 he became the owner of the Hude manor.

He quit military service and married Karoline von Sobbe on May 31, 1748. When Karoline Adam's mother was introduced, she said, impressed by her youth and beauty: "Adam, from which altar did you steal this saint?"

The marriage produced five sons and six daughters. Adam Levin had a long friendship with the city counsel of Oldenburg , Anton Wilhelm von Halem . With this he founded the Freemason Lodge Abel on July 28, 1748 , which is the forerunner of the Lodge at the Golden Deer , which still exists today .

Landowner von Hude

During his time as a landowner, Adam Levin implemented extensive urbanization measures in the widely scattered properties around Hude and continued to expand the former abbot's house as a manor and hunting lodge.

He also carried out plans for the construction of a landscape park around the Hude monastery , which he could no longer complete due to his sudden death. His eldest son, Christoph Ernst von Witzleben, was only able to start building the park in 1790. The English landscape garden originally planned by Adam Levin still exists today around the monastery and the estate.
