Adam Christiaensz Pijnacker or Pynacker (* 1620 or 1622 in Schiedam ; buried on March 28, 1673 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch Golden Age painter , mainly of landscapes .

Live and act

Pijnacker was born the son of a wine merchant who was a member of the Vroedschap , the city government. He traveled to Italy and was gone for three years. In 1658 he converted to Catholicism to marry Eva Maria de Geest, the daughter of Wybrand de Geest . Two years later, his father-in-law painted a portrait of him as a counterpart to an earlier portrait of his wife. In Schiedam he baptized two children, but from 1661 he lived on the Rozengracht in Amsterdam until his death .

Wedding portraits

De Geest was an extremely successful portrait painter, who portrayed his daughter in 1652 and his new son-in-law two years after their wedding:

Pijnacker is seen as an example of an Italianate landscape painter traveling to Italy , such as Jan Both , Jan Baptist Weenix , Nicolaes Berchem and Jan Asselyn . He specialized in decorating entire rooms. The poet P. Verhoek wrote a poem about one of his decorated rooms.
