Adam von Wolkenstein-Trostburg

Adam Freiherr von Wolkenstein-Trostburg (* 1583 ; † around 1635 in Tyrol ?) Was an Austrian nobleman and commander and most recently a councilor of the German Knightly Order .

Life

Adam was the son of Melchior Hannibal von Freiherr zu Wolkenstein and Trostburg (1517–1596) and his second wife Eleonore Truchsessin von Waldburg . After completing his studies, Adam came to Mergentheim in 1606 in the wake of Marquart Freiherr von Egg and Hungerspach , governor of Archduke Maximilian of Tyrol , German and Grand Master . After Wolkenstein did not get a chance as President of the Court of Appeal in Speyer, he was accepted into the Teutonic Order in 1607. As a result he fought in Malta from 1607 to 1609 , was Komtur zu Würzburg in 1610 and Komtur von Donauwörth from 1618 to 1627. In 1635 he is named as councilor of the Ballei Franken and Komtur zu Heilbronn. In 1635 Adam made his will in Hall in Tirol , the exact year of his death is not known.

Until the death of Archduke Maximilian in 1618 Adam was his chamberlain, then that of Archduke Karl and from 1625 imperial chamberlain Ferdinand II .

Adam donated 6,000 guilders for the royal women's monastery in Hall in Tirol and 2,000 guilders for the Poor Clare Monastery in Brixen , where his sister Katharina was abbess.

Trivia

The swear sign of Adam Freiherr zu Wolkenstein and Trostburg was originally in the castle church of the Teutonic Order Castle in Mergentheim inside on the south wall under the organ gallery. A “W” is painted in the middle of the circular wooden shield, the coat of arms and the outer edge of the shield are each framed by a carved and gilded ornament hoop. The surrounding painted inscription reads:

"On (n) o 1607 · the · 23 day · ap (r) ilis is the well-bored gentleman · Mr. Adam Freyherr Zu Wolckenstein / Vnd Trostburg in / because the knightly / Teuschen order is coming"

The shield is now in the collection of the Commander and Councilor of the Teutonic Knight Order in the Teutonic Order Church Friesach in Friesach .
