Adelheid von Katzenelnbogen
Adelheid von Katzenelnbogen († Mainz , February 22, 1288 ) was a countess from the house Katzenelnbogen and by marriage Countess von Nassau. She is the ancestor of the Walram line of the House of Nassau and a direct ancestor of the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg .
Life
Adelheid was the daughter of Count Diether IV von Katzenelnbogen and Hildegunde. She married before 1250 with Count Walram II of Nassau (* around 1220; † January 24, 1276). Her husband had shared the county of Nassau with his younger brother Otto I on December 16, 1255 , where Walram had received the area south of the Lahn - including Wiesbaden , Idstein , Weilburg and Bleidenstadt .
From this marriage emerged:
- Diether (* around 1250; † Trier , November 23, 1307), was Archbishop and Elector of Trier 1300–1307.
- Adolf (* around 1255; † Göllheim , July 2, 1298), successor to his father, was Roman-German King 1292–1298.
- Richardis († July 28, 1311), was a nun in the St. Klara Monastery in Mainz and later in the Klarenthal Monastery near Wiesbaden.
- Mathilda (died young).
- Imagina († before 1276), ⚭ possibly Friedrich von Lichtenberg.
Walram died - allegedly mentally deranged - on January 24th, 1276. Adelheid then entered the monastery, she was a Franciscan in Wiesbaden (in summer) and in Mainz (in winter). Allegedly, she and her daughter Richardis led a very pious life.
The necrology of the Poor Clare Monastery of St. Klara in Mainz documented the death of “Alheidis… comitissa de Nassowe” on “Non Kal Mar” in 1288 and her burial “in habitu soror” . She died on February 22nd, 1288 and was buried in the monastery of St. Klara in Mainz.
