Adi Kwala ( Tigrinya ዓዲ ዃላ ; also Addi Kwala , Adikwala , Adi Quala , Arabic عدي كوالا) is a city in Eritrea . It is located in the Debub region about 36 km from the capital Asmara and 24 km from Mareb on the road from Asmara to Gonder .

During the Battle of Gundet between the Egyptians and Ethiopians in November 1875, Adi Kwala served as the Egyptian military depot. During the colonial period, Italian goods were exported to Ethiopia via Adi Kwala. The population was estimated at around 550 in 1938. There are a number of monasteries in the area and an Italian monument to those who died in the Battle of Adwa in 1896. The border town continues to matter.
