Encyclopaedia Aethiopica

The Encyclopaedia Aethiopica (EAE) is a five-volume English - language reference work on Ethiopian studies .

It was edited by Siegbert Uhlig (and since the 4th volume also by Alessandro Bausi ) at the Department of African and Ethiopian Studies at the University of Hamburg and developed with the collaboration of numerous international specialists. It was published by Harrassowitz Verlag .

The Encyclopaedia Aethiopica deals with the intellectual history of Northeast Africa from prehistory to 1974 and contains basic data such as economy and geography, history, language and linguistics, ethnology, biographies, religion and art. Spatially, it includes the entire "Orbis Aethiopicus", ie in addition to the core countries of Ethiopia, Ethiopia and Eritrea , the entire Horn of Africa with (parts of) Kenya , Somalia , Djibouti and Sudan .
