Structural formula of the di-anion of adipic acid

As Adipate in the are Chemie the esters and salts of adipic acid referred to (the former also adipic acid ). The adipates represent the most important group of the aliphatic dibasic carboxylic acid esters .

Manufacturing

Alcohols with chain lengths of approx. C 8 –C 10 are esterified with adipic acid to produce a number of adipate plasticizers. Diethylhexyl adipate is obtained , for example, by esterifying adipic acid with 2-ethylhexanol . Monoethyl adipate is obtained analogously from adipic acid and ethanol .

use

Adipates are used as plasticizers in plastics (such as PVC ) and as food additives to regulate acidity . Compared to phthalates , adipates in PVC have improved resistance at low temperatures.
