Ado Ekiti is the capital of the Nigerian state of Ekiti and is located in the southwest of Nigeria. According to a calculation from 2012, the city has 409,270 inhabitants. Around 580,000 people live in the Ado Ekitis agglomeration .
Ado Ekiti is 148 km northeast of Ibadan . Ado Ekiti has a university, the University of Ado Ekiti , and a radio and television station. The city operates a stadium with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, which is home to a football club in the third division. The region's agricultural products such as yams , cassava , grain and tobacco are traded at the local market .
Ado Ekiti and its surroundings form one of the 16 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state of Ekiti with an area of 293.41 km². In the penultimate census in 1991, the LGA had 156,122 inhabitants and thus a population density of 532 inhabitants per km².
