Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC

Programs and services for image management and processing of digital photos are grouped under Adobe Photoshop Lightroom . The elements of the Lightroom system support various photo formats, including raw data , such as are typically generated by digital single-lens reflex (DSLR), but also mirrorless system cameras (DSLM) and some compact cameras (bridge). Since version 3 videos are also supported.

Structure of the software

The apps of the cloud-based software Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC show an interface for importing, archiving, editing and sharing, organized in boxes that can be opened for the various steps.

The interface of the desktop-based software Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC is divided into seven modules:

Library
Contains an overview display of the images in grid or full screen mode. It is also possible to import and export from the camera and other data carriers. For easy administration, it offers various functions for indexing ( IPTC ), evaluating, marking, grouping, filtering and organizing in collections.
Develop
Offers a wide range of basic functions for influencing color temperature , tonal value distribution , gradation , subtle selective color correction and tinting of highlights and shadows. There are also functions for cropping, rotating, removing noise and sharpening images, to name the most important ones. Since version 2 there are also options for selective image correction, i.e. H. Application of corrections and optimizations to parts of an image are available.
map
A module for georeferencing images. Geographic information can be assigned to the photos using drag & drop (no longer supported for versions up to and including Lightroom CC 2015.x / Lightroom 6.x).
book
Contains functions for creating photo books, which can then be ordered from a provider or output as JPEG or PDF files.
Slide show
Enables the creation of a slide show to present selected images on the monitor, second screen or projector. A presentation can also be output as a PDF file.
To press
Offers extensive options for arranging images on the page, even in different sizes. Generation of contact sheets, image collections and control of FineArt printers. Instead of direct printer control, a JPEG file can also be generated. A direct generation of a PDF file is possible from version 2.0; this can be achieved beforehand using a PDF printer driver .
Web
Enables the simple creation of a web presentation of the images as an HTML or Flash gallery based on ready-made templates. Your own templates can be uploaded to an (existing) webspace directly from Lightroom via FTP based on the ready-made images. Since Lightroom 3.0, it can also be published on Facebook , Flickr and other social networks.

Supported file formats

Lightroom supports the data import of the graphic formats JPG , PSD , TIFF as well as the open raw data format Digital Negative , DNG for short, developed by Adobe . In addition, the internal development module enables the import of the native raw data formats of the various camera manufacturers such as Canon Raw (* .crw, * .cr2), Pentax Raw (* .pef) or Nikon Raw (* .nef).

When importing images, the photographer also has a variety of sorting and renaming systems at his disposal, such as defining keywords (metadata).

particularities

Like all raw converters, the program works non-destructively - that is, the original file is never changed (only the recording time can optionally be changed directly in the original file), but all changes are made separately from the original file in a database or an additional one Metafile (so-called " branch file ") saved in XMP format. Optionally, the XMP data can also be written into the files. The changes only take effect when converted (exported) to JPEG or TIFF.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom uses technologies from the now discontinued raw program RawShooter from the Danish company Pixmantec. Adobe Systems took over the software house in 2006.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is sold in the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription model . The current version 7 of the desktop version is officially called "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC" and was published on October 18, 2017.

Also on October 18, 2017, Adobe presented its new cloud-based photo service "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC", with which photos can be managed, edited and shared across platforms and can be viewed as a counterpart to Apple's photos. Lightroom CC is compatible with the desktop-only software Lightroom Classic CC in that albums created with Lightroom CC can be viewed and edited in Lightroom Classic CC as a published collection, and vice versa. Adobe offers a migration assistant for the complete change from the desktop version Lightroom Classic CC to the cloud version Lightroom CC. Lightroom CC offers a smaller range of functions than Lightroom Classic CC, including: a. regarding the processing options and there is a lack of map display and the possibility of manual geotagging or log matching.

In addition to the publishing service already integrated by Adobe, e.g. B. for Flickr , the plugin WP / LR Sync enables the synchronization of the photo management of Lightroom with the media library of the content management system WordPress .
