The Adolf-Clarenbach-Haus or Goebenstift (after Goebenstrasse) is an evangelical-theological Konvikt in Bonn's Südstadt district and accommodates 36 students in two neighboring houses. The Konvikt is supported by a church association and partly administered by the students themselves. It is named after Adolf Clarenbach , one of the first Protestant martyrs on the Lower Rhine .

House

The monastery is divided into a main building and an annex, which are inhabited by theology students and students from other disciplines. It has an internal specialist library on the five theological disciplines and the ancient languages. In the refectory , which was previously used as a common dining room, house conventions and services are held today. It is also used for study groups and house parties.

Furthermore, the house has its own prayer room , in which the students hold prayer twice a week. The prayer room will be used throughout the week as a place of silence and pause.

For many years the house has been closely associated with the Evangelical Theological Faculty; At the moment this connection is guaranteed by the Ephorus Hermut Löhr .

history

The study house was built by the Rhenish-Westphalian Association of Friends of the Church Confession , founded in 1894 , in order to provide a home for students who were loyal to the Church in addition to the Evangelical Theological Foundation , which had existed since 1854 and was dominated by liberal theology . From 1896 it was initially housed in a rented house at Beethovenstrasse 26. In 1899 the first 15 students and the study inspector and his family moved into the main building. Due to the poor financial situation and the decreasing number of theology students in the course of the church struggle , the study house was closed in 1936 and taken over by the Confessing Church . After the Second World War , the house was used as accommodation for the Allied troops. From 1948 onwards it was only possible to use the adjoining house and from 1951/52 also the main house again as a study house. In 1957 the study house was finally renamed by the sponsoring association after Adolf Clarenbach.

After the Evangelical-Theological Monastery (since the 1960s "Hans-Iwand-Haus") had to be closed in 2011 due to dilapidation, the proceeds from the sale of the property were used to thoroughly modernize the Adolf-Clarenbach-Haus and reopen it in 2017.

Well-known personalities who lived and worked in the house included Helmut Gollwitzer , Walter Kreck , Gerhard Sauter , Reinhard Thöle and Hanns-Stephan Haas .
