The Adolf-Mittag-See is a lake in the Rotehornpark in Magdeburg .

The lake was artificially created in the years 1906 to 1908 by widening the Tauben Elbe , an Elbe arm . The funds for this project, 50,000 marks , were provided by the Magdeburg industrialist and patron Adolf Mittag , which is why the lake was subsequently named. On the south side of the lake is the Marieninsel named after the wife at noon with the temple of Venus .

Promenade paths lead around the lake . In the lake, on a second island, there is a boat rental where rowing boats and pedal boats can be rented. Depending on the water level , some of the Elbe pigeons can also be driven on. From the beer garden to the west of the lake, a flight of stairs leads to the lake shore.

From 2006 to 2008 the lake was comprehensively renovated for 1.7 million euros and the fresh water supply from the Elbe improved. This had become necessary because of the consequences of the Elbe floods in 2002 and the progressive silting up due to eutrophication . For this purpose, the lake and the pigeon Elbe were dredged and an eleven meter high fountain was installed to improve the oxygen supply.

From 2018 to 2019, a further renovation took place due to the Elbe sludge that was re-entered during the Elbe floods in 2013 . The lake has been open again since July 18, 2019.
