Adolf Benscheid

Adolf Gustav Benscheid (born September 9, 1888 in Remscheid ; † October 26, 1961 there ) was a German politician ( KPD ). He was a member of the Prussian state parliament .

Life

After completing his apprenticeship in 1904, Benscheid worked as a locksmith . In 1907 he became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the German Metalworkers Association (DMV). From 1910 he was a functionary in the Remscheid local administration of the DMV. He left the SPD in protest in 1914 and joined the Spartacus group during the First World War . From 1914 to 1918 was a soldier in a pioneer company.

In 1919 he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) when it was founded. From 1920 to 1923 he was a full-time secretary of the DMV in Remscheid, then editor of the KPD newspaper Bergische Volksstimme . From 1924 to 1932 he was a member of the Prussian Landtag, first for the constituency of Westphalia-Süd / Arnsberg, then for the constituency of Koblenz-Trier. At the 10th party congress of the KPD in Berlin (July 12-17, 1925) he became a member of the Political Commission. From 1926 he was secretary of the KPD in Mönchengladbach , then in Essen . From January 1928 to April 1931, Benscheid was sub-district leader of the KPD in Koblenz and a member of the Central Rhine district management. From 1932 he worked as an instructor for the KPD in Braunschweig .

After the Nazis "seized power " in 1933, he was arrested and spent some time in the Dachau concentration camp . After his release he worked from home as a file cutter . He was arrested again on August 22, 1944 as part of the “Thunderstorm” campaign .

After the end of the Second World War , Benscheid opened a small factory in Remscheid. In 1946 he ran for the KPD in the elections for the Remscheid city parliament. He was later expelled from the KPD and from 1950 was the first chairman of the Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime in Remscheid.
