Jost Brunner (born May 30, 1814 in Glarus ; † September 7, 1904 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician .

biography

Jost Brunner was born on May 30, 1814, the son of the entrepreneur Heinrich Brunner in Glarus. He attended the Aarau Cantonal School . He then completed a commercial training abroad. Brunner married Rahel Streiff in 1839, the daughter of the factory owner and councilor Jakob Streiff . He died on September 7, 1904 at the age of 90 in Glarus. In the Swiss Army he held the rank of captain .

As a successful entrepreneur, Jost Brunner was part of - from 1868 sole owner of the textile printing works Brunner in Glarus, which he called “J. de H. Brunner » until 1904. From 1872 to 1873 Brunner was represented on the board of directors of the Glarner Druckervereinigung .

Brunner was a councilor in Glarus. In addition, he was a member of the Glarner professional ethics commission from 1848 to 1860 as Glarus councilor and district administrator, as well as the road and building commission from 1848 to 1878 and the budget commission from 1848 to 1887. He was one of the organizers of the Swiss Federal Shooting Festival in Glarus in 1847, where he was in charge of construction. He was also a member of the aid committee for the reconstruction of Glarus after the fire of 1861 .
