Adolf Drobny (* 1938 in Linz ; † December 12, 1994 in Pregarten ) was an Austrian goldsmith and artist.

Life

Adolf Drobny completed his training as a master goldsmith and state-certified jewelry designer. He then studied at the art and craft school in Pforzheim , where he met his wife Elsa, a watchmaker's daughter and a master goldsmith herself.

In 1964, Adolf and Elsa Drobny founded a workshop with a shop on Herrenstrasse in Linz. At that time, her work was considered unique and avant-garde in Linz. Soon the workshop was enlarged and staffed by Alois Stimpl and Fritz Esterbauer . As a result, branches were established in Salzburg and Zell am See . Drobny's workshops later resulted in a number of independent goldsmiths, which he also supported. At that time they lived in a house in Leonding .

In 1972 Drobny acquired the “Felsenburg” in Pregarten, a neo-renaissance villa built in 1921 by Viennese city architect Anton Klappholz for the Viennese businessman Anton Watzl , to which he moved after extensive renovations. The Drobny couple got involved in Pregartner culture and were co-founders and sponsors of the Pregartner cultural association "CART".

Drobny was also the master of the goldsmiths' guild in the Chamber of Commerce and founded the association “Friends of Goldsmithing” to promote contemporary jewelry and develop new aesthetic forms of expression. In 1989 he initiated the school for jewelry design with an institute on a club basis in the Losensteiner Freihaus acquired for this purpose in the old town of Linz, which was continued by his daughter, Anja Schlotthauer until 1997. In 1991, a "EL-Avantgarde Gallery", run by his wife Elsa, was opened in the Losensteiner Freihaus, which existed until Elsa Drobny's death in 1995.

After Adolf Drobny's death, son Lucas Drobny organized a large exhibition of his works, which was shown in the Linz City Museum Nordico , at Hagenberg Castle , at the Vienna Festival and in the Pforzheim jewelry school.
