Adolf Edward Herstein
Adolf Edward Herstein (also Adolf Eduard Herstein , * 1869 in Warsaw , † 1932 in Berlin ) was a Polish painter and engraver who a. a. studied with Anton Ažbe in Munich . He lived and worked in France, Germany and Poland.
Despite her engagement to Walter Lübke , Herstein, then living in Munich, began an affair in November 1893 with the young Franziska Countess zu Reventlow , whose art critic he was. When Reventlow noticed in the spring of 1894 that she was pregnant, Herstein did not want to take on father duties and therefore advised her to marry Walter Lübke. In Berlin, Herstein was a member of the Secession Art Movement and the German Association of Artists . In 1904 Herstein founded a private painting school in Warsaw, which existed until 1911. Roman Kramsztyk was one of his students here.
His oil paintings were created using the impasto technique and stylistically close to impressionism . The Museum of Modern Art has one of his works.
