Adolf Hofer (politician)

Adolf Hofer (born August 17, 1868 in Pleinlauken , Tilsit-Ragnit district , East Prussia ; † September 3, 1935 in Berlin ) was a German landowner ( Junker ) and a Prussian social democratic politician.

Life

Hofer's father was a manor in Groß Skaisgirren (today: Bolschakowo , Kaliningrad Oblast). Hofer attended high school and graduated from high school. In 1889 he joined the SPD . From 1893 Hofer was the owner of the parental estate. He managed it himself until it was sold in 1913. In the following years Hofer lived as a privateer on his wife's estate in Pleinlauken.

From 1898 onwards he ran for the Reichstag on various occasions in vain . In 1913 he became a member of the Prussian state parliament . He was expelled from the social democratic faction in 1917 because of his proximity to the USPD . In this party he was a member of the central party executive. In addition to Otto Braun for the SPD, Hofer was for the USPD until January 4, 1919, head of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Prussian Council of People's Representatives .

With parts of the USPD Hofer returned to the SPD in 1922. From 1923 he was district administrator in the Fischhausen district (today: Primorsk, Kaliningrad) in East Prussia and from 1925 a member of the provincial parliament of the East Prussia province . On March 29, 1931, he resigned his mandate in the provincial parliament. He was succeeded by Fritz Polenz . In 1931 he retired.
