Adolf Jarislowsky (born April 17, 1855 in Hultschin , North Moravia, † December 5, 1933 in Berlin ) was a Berlin banker .

Life

He acquired his basic economic knowledge in the coal trade before moving on to banking. In 1878 he founded his banking house Jarislowsky & Co. , whose location was initially An der Schleuse 5A, later Universitätsstraße 3B and, from 1922, Jägerstraße 69. It was said that he had the entire list of the Berlin stock exchange in his head.

He worked with the Dortmund Union led by Adolph von Hansemann .

To 1888 he was Chairman of the Board in November 1872 by Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck , founded Donnersmarckhütte, Upper Silesian iron and coal Werke Aktiengesellschaft . After he became mentally ill in 1907, he was allowed to hold the chair until 1909. In 1910 his brother-in-law, lawyer Eugen Goldstein, was appointed chairman of the AG.

His daughter Edith met the economist and business economist Julius Hirsch (1882–1961) in Albert Einstein's house , whom she married around 1922.

His son Alfred Jarislowsky (* around 1898 - † January 1929) took over the bank on Französische Straße . Alfred married in 1923, Kate (Gassmann), the daughter of a co-owner of the Gliwice iron wholesaler Hahn, Gassmann & Co . Stephen A. Jarislowsky was born on September 9, 1925 . From around 1925, Alfred coordinated the Silesian cement interests of the Ostwerke together with Ludwig Katzenellenbogen . After he died of scarlet fever, Käte became a member of the supervisory board and in 1932 married the auditor Oppenheimer, whereupon her trail is lost.

The bank owned around 77 percent of the shares in Berlin-Gubener Hutfabrik AG (BGH) , which the shareholders had to sell in 1937. The bank was closed by the National Socialists in 1933 and liquidated by his son-in-law Hirsch until Kristallnacht in November 1938.

Adolf Jarislowsky is buried in the cemetery of the Jewish community in Prenzlauer Berg .
