Barossa sculpture symposium

The Bildhauersymposion Barossa (English: Barossa International Sculpture Symposium ) took place in 1988 and 20 years later in 2008 on the edge of the Barossa Valley in South Australia , Australia instead. After the first Australian sculpture symposium at Wondabyne not far from Gosford in New South Wales , which took place in 1986, this is the second such symposium in Australia in 1988 .

The place Barossa is located about 70 km northeast of Adelaide in a wine-growing region. The sculptors' work is on display in Barossa Sculpture Park on Mengler Hill and the road from Tanunda to Angaston passes it.

1988 symposium

In 1988, during the Australian spring, from September 1st to October 14th, nine sculptures were made out of marble and gabbro , for which the sculptors had six weeks. Nine sculptors from France , Japan , Australia and the USA took part in the 1988 symposium :

  • Lawrence Beck from New South Wales
  • Stefan Bruggisser from New South Wales
  • Michael Cartwright from Victoria , Australia
  • Susan Falkman from Wisconsin , USA
  • Mary Gerken from Iowa in the USA
  • Christiane Giraud from France
  • Takio Ogai from Japan
  • Paul Trappe from South Australia

Symposium 2008

At the symposium, rough blocks with a length of 2.4 to 3 meters made of dark and brown hard stone were processed with compressed air tools and the tools of the sculptors. In 2008 eight sculptors from Belgium , Egypt , Japan, France, Great Britain , USA and Australia were involved:

  • Omar Tousson from Egypt
  • Hiroshi Miyauchi from Japan
  • Viktor Kalinowski, from Poland, has lived in Australia since 1986
  • Michael Dan Archer from Great Britain
  • Patrice Belin from France
  • Kevin Free from Australia
  • Roger Loos from the USA
