Adolf Niess

Gustav Adolf Friedrich Niess (born October 1, 1824 in Leer (East Friesland) , † February 26, 1863 in Hildesheim ) was a German painter and drawing teacher.

Life

Adolf Nieß, son of a lieutenant , graduated from the court school and the high school in Hanover. From Michaelis 1839 to Easter 1842 he was a student with the city architect August Heinrich Andreae and at the higher trade school in Hanover. From 1842 to 1846 he studied at the art academy in Dresden , in 1847 at the one in Düsseldorf , where he was a student of Karl Ferdinand's son .

After a trip through Holland, he returned to Hanover, where he lived as a portrait painter and teacher at various schools. He had been working at the school teachers' seminar since February 1848, since 1851 at the Neustädter Knabenschule , from 1851 to 1857 at the Stadttöchterschule , from 1853 to 1862 at the secondary school for girls, from 1855 to 1862 at the secondary school and since 1856 as a teacher for free hand drawing the polytechnic school , where he was permanently employed in 1858.

In 1848 he exhibited a genre painting at the exhibition of the Kunstverein Hannover .
