Adolf Oberländer (architect)
Adolf Oberländer (born August 16, 1867 in Laa an der Thaya ; † April 26, 1923 in Vienna ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
Adolf Oberländer was a Jew. In 1892 he received a license as master mason for the suburbs of Vienna, which at that time included the right to design and build houses himself, provided that it was not a monumental building. In 1898 he married Jeanne Marguerite Zechner in Paris , with whom he had two children. In the same year he formed a successful architectural partnership with Rudolf Krausz until 1905. Then the partners separated and each opened their own studio. Oberländer described himself as an architect and master mason . In 1917 he acquired the master builder's license and occasionally acted as a builder. Oberländer died at the age of 55 as a result of blood poisoning.
power
Adolf Oberländer worked his way up from a simple bricklayer in the provinces to a successful architect in the big city. Together with his partner Rudolf Krausz, he used the old German style, which was not very common in Austria at the time. Many of his buildings have a painterly effect, which was created through different and asymmetrical decorative elements. From this the preference for a homeland security architecture developed . Depending on the task and location, Oberländer changed its formal vocabulary accordingly so that the new buildings could fit into the existing environment. He mainly created apartment buildings and villas in Vienna.
