Adolf Philippi (politician)

Adolf Jacob Philippi (born January 2, 1849 in Usingen ; † May 17, 1923 ibid) was a member of parliament and mayor of Usingen.

Life

Philippi came from an old Usingen family who had provided city calculators, lay judges and mayors several times. His father Johann Christian Philippi (born January 4, 1802, † April 29, 1870 ibid) was a city school and merchant in Usingen. The mother was Maria Margaretha Magdalena born Schreiber (* June 21, 1806, † April 29, 1870 in Usingen), the daughter of the veterinarian Benedikt Schreiber.

He married on May 19, 1871 in Usingen Maria Carolina born Schweighöfer (born October 10, 1846 in Usingen, † April 29, 1870 ibid), the daughter of the carpenter Johann Sebastian Schweighöfer.

In 1870/71 Philippi took part in the Franco-German War . From 1884 to 1908 he was mayor of Usingen. During his tenure, Usingen became the county seat of the Usingen district in 1886 . In 1895 Usingen was connected to the rail network with the Taunusbahn . In 1898 the modern water supply and sewer system were established.

From 1891 Philippi was a member of the district council and from 1902 a district member. From 1915 to 1916 he represented the Usingen district in the Nassau municipal parliament . In Parliament he was a member of the Audit Committee.
