Adolf Sautter

Adolf Sautter (born October 30, 1872 in Pforzheim ; † March 6, 1956 in Pforzheim) was a German sculptor .

Life

Adolf Sautter to prepare attended the teacher from the age of 14, the preparatory school in Gengenbach and began in 1892 as assistant teacher in Donaueschingen . It is testified that he worked as a part-time church organist and gymnastics teacher. In 1894 he quit his job and began studying to be a drawing teacher at the Badische Kunstgewerbeschule in Pforzheim . He later switched to the Kunstgewerbeschule Karlsruhe , where he a. a. studied with Hermann Volz and Max Laeuger . During this time, a study visit also took him to Paris .

From March 1899 he held the position of teacher for drawing and modeling at the Pforzheim School of Applied Arts; in 1906 he was appointed professor. Shortly afterwards, he took a year off and went on a study trip to Italy.

In 1935 he ended his career.

Works (selection)

Sautter created numerous tombstones and monuments as well as sculptures on church buildings. However, Sautter's importance remained limited to his places of activity, Pforzheim and Karlsruhe. His well-known works include:

  • 1902: Portrait medallion of Johannes Reuchlin for the Reuchlin-Gymnasium Pforzheim
  • 1903: Mythical animals and heads for the Grand Ducal District Office in Pforzheim
  • 1908: Bronze relief for the Beichel tomb in Karlsruhe
  • 1912: Christ figure at the Christ Church in Pforzheim
  • 1913: Christ figure on the portal of the Luther House in Pforzheim (destroyed)
  • around 1924: bust of Fritz Schwerdt
