Adolf Schmitz
Heinrich Gustav Adolf Schmitz , also Schmitz-Crolenburgh (born June 4, 1825 in Cologne or Darmstadt , † March 18, 1894 in Düsseldorf ), was a German history painter and illustrator .
Schmitz studied from 1843 at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and from 1846 in Antwerp painting. From 1851 Schmitz worked at the Städel Institute in Frankfurt am Main . In the 1860s he returned to Düsseldorf. There he was a member of the board of directors of the artists' association Malkasten .
Schmitz created the wall paintings in the small Gürzenichsaal in Cologne and the ceiling painting in the Palais Pringsheim in Berlin (torn down in 1950). In 1865 he created the mural Johannisfest for the town hall in Münster .
