Adolf Thiermann (born November 19, 1899 in Veitlahm near Mainleus , † December 13, 1993 in Munich ) was a German painter , graphic artist and draftsman .

Life

After graduating from high school in Nuremberg, Adolf Thiermann studied chemistry, art history and philosophy at the Universities of Erlangen and Munich. He worked as a student trainee at the Agfa paint factory in Wolfen . From 1924 to 1929 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Karl Caspar and Adolf Schinnerer , whose master class he became.

Between 1930 and 1946 he was first assistant in and finally head of the etching workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1946 to 1967 he worked at the academy as a specialist teacher for etching.

He undertook study trips to Sweden, Norway, Northern Italy, Spain, Greece, Russia (Siberia and the Black Sea) and Great Britain, where numerous landscape etchings were made.

Thiermann was a member of the Association for Original Etching Munich, the Association of Franconian Artists and the Professional Association of Visual Artists Munich. In addition to several solo exhibitions, he was represented in group exhibitions at home and abroad. His works can be found in collections of the Free State of Bavaria, the City of Munich and private collections.

family

Adolf Thiermann was married to the artist Cäcilie Thiermann-Heise . The marriage had six children. He was the youngest brother of the artist Elisabeth Thiermann and nephew of the artist Adolf Schinnerer .
