Adomerus biguttatus ( Syn . : Sehirus biguttatus ) is a bug from the family of earth bugs (Cydnidae).

features

The bugs are 5.5 to 7.4 millimeters long. They are glossy black in color, with a pale yellow margin on the pronotum and the wings. They also have two spots of the same color on the corium of the hemielytras .

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from North Africa across the entire Mediterranean, north to Scandinavia and east to eastern Siberia and China. The species occurs everywhere in Central Europe, but is rarely discovered because of its hidden way of life. It lives in various open to partially shaded habitats and makes no demands on moisture content or type of soil. You can find them in Central Europe in the low mountain ranges at higher altitudes, in the Alps up to about 2000 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The animals live on the ground under quail wheat ( Melampyrum ), such as field quail wheat ( Melampyrum arvense ), meadow quail wheat ( Melampyrum pratense ) and grove quail wheat ( Melampyrum nemorosum ), more rarely under rattling pots ( Rhinanthus ). During the mating season in April, but especially in May, the animals can also be found in the herbaceous layer and on woody trees. The adult bugs overwinter in leaf litter , dead wood and moss beds, often in the litter with heather ( Calluna ) and blueberries ( Vaccinium ). The females can be observed guarding their egg clutches, which consist of around 30 to a maximum of 60 eggs, in April and May, the nymphs appear from June to September. Adult animals of the new generation can be found from July or August.
