The Adrar Bous (also Adragh Bous ) is a 1123  m high mountain in the Aïr high mountains in Niger .

geography

The Adrar Bous is a black pluton on the northeastern edge of the Aïr. It is surrounded by the Ténéré desert . The mountain is located in the Gougaram rural municipality in the Arlit department . It belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Aïr and Ténéré nature reserve . The Mont Gréboun ( 1944  m ) rises southwest of Adrar Bous .

The mountain is elliptical in shape, covering an area of ​​16 by 10 kilometers. Two fifths of the surface consists of basic rock , which forms an arch-shaped depression that is bordered by monzonites to the west and by alkaline and peralkaline granites to the north and east .

History and culture

The isolated mountain was settled in the Neolithic , as proven by sites with 10,000 year old human traces. Arrowheads and tools were found, as well as Sahara rock carvings , 9500 year old ceramics and a 6000 year old cattle grave.
