Gougaram (also: Goûgaram ) is a rural community in the Arlit department in Niger .

geography

Gougaram is located on the western edge of the Aïr Mountains and borders the neighboring state of Algeria in the northwest . The neighboring communities in Niger are Djado in the west, Iférouane in the southeast and Arlit and Dannet in the southwest. The region is dominated by the Sahelian climate , with high temperatures and low, irregular rainfall between 50 and 100 mm of rain per year. The municipality is divided into the administrative village of Oumarat and 14 water points.

history

The rural community of Gougaram was established as an administrative unit in 2002 in an area that was previously free of a community. In the flood disaster in West and Central Africa in 2010 , 2144 residents of Gougaram were classified as disaster victims, more than in any other municipality in the Agadez region.

population

At the 2001 census, Gougaram had 4010 inhabitants, 105 of them in the village of Oumarat. At the 2012 census, the total population was 10,336. In the south of the municipality which is Tamascheq - variety Tayart that Tamascheq-variety along the border with Algeria to the north Tahaggart spoken.

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Mohamed Aoutchiki ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On April 15, 2010, the Council of Ministers appointed Ahmed Alghous Administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) of the municipality.

Gougaram also serves as a military station for control purposes. A primary school reopened in 2010 is located in the community.
