Adrián Escudero García (born November 24, 1927 in Madrid , † March 7, 2011 ibid) was a Spanish football player from Atlético Madrid .

Career

At the end of 1945 Escudero moved from the Spanish amateur club Deportivo Mediodía to Atlético Madrid, where he played eleven seasons and stayed until the end of his career. In the 1950 and 1951 he won the Spanish championship with his club.

On March 8, 1953, Escudero scored the 1000th goal in the club's history of Atlético Madrid with a penalty in the 3-2 defeat by Celta Vigo . In 1958 he did not renew his contract and ended his career at the age of 30. Nevertheless, with a total of 170 goals in 330 games, he is only two goals behind Luis Aragonés in second place on Atlético's all-time goalscorer list.

After his professional career, Escudero worked for a few years as a youth coach at Atlético Madrid. After his former teammate Rafael García Repullo was dismissed as a coach, he took over the club on December 29, 1963 for a game as an interim coach. The game against Valencia CF was lost 2-1.

Escudero died on March 7, 2011 at the age of 83.

National team

Escudero came to three appearances in the Spanish national soccer team in three and a half years . He made his debut on December 7, 1952 in the friendly against Argentina , which was lost 1-0.

His first and only official game was in qualifying for the 1954 World Cup against Turkey , where he scored the equalizer to 2-2.
