The Adriatic was a ship of the White Star Line .
The Adriatic was launched in Belfast on October 17, 1871 . She was built in the Harland & Wolff shipyard.
On April 11, 1872, she made her maiden voyage from Liverpool via Queenstown to New York . In May 1872 she won the Blue Ribbon at a speed of 14.53 knots.
In 1884 an area for 2nd class passengers was set up, which has not previously existed on this ship.
The Adriatic was decommissioned in December 1897 and scrapped in Preston in 1899 .
Collisions
The Adriatic was involved in several collisions. The most momentous occurred in December 1875 off the Irish coast. The Adriatic collided with the sailing ship Harvest Queen of the Black Ball Line along which sank soon after the accident. All 30 people on board were killed.
