Adscita is a genus of butterflies fromthe ram family (Zygaenidae).

features

The head and thorax , often the abdomen and the upper side of the fore wing, shimmer green or blue and have an almost metallic sheen. The forewings are narrowly triangular or narrowly ovate. The hind wings are more or less rectangular. The females are usually slightly smaller than the males, sometimes they are the same size and have a similar wing shape. The antennae of the males are double-combed, club-shaped and have a blunt rounded tip. The antennae of the females are doubly saw-shaped or almost thread-shaped. They are slightly thickened distally or strongly club-shaped. The tip of the antennae is blunt. In the males, the uncus is heavily sclerotized and distinctive. The blades have a triangular translucent area distally . In females, the prebursa is either present or absent.

distribution

The representatives of the genus Adscita are mainly native to the Western Palearctic .

biology

The caterpillars of all species develop on the knotweed family (Polygonaceae), rockrose family (Cistaceae) and cranesbill family (Geraniaceae). The caterpillars of all species are leaf miners, at least in the first stages. All species form only one generation a year.

The genus Adscita consists of two sub-genera with a total of 26 species. 14 of them are represented in the Western Palearctic, these are listed in the following overview.
