Adscita jordani is a butterfly fromthe ram family (Zygaenidae). The specific epithet jordani honors the entomologist Karl Jordan , whose genital morphological investigations made it possible for the first person to identify the species of the genus Adscita .

features

The moths reach a forewing length of 10.0 to 11.5 millimeters in the males and 10.0 to 11.0 millimeters in the females. The head, thorax and legs are hairy and colored gold-green or copper-green. The golden-green abdomen is long and has a blunt end. The antennae are very short and shimmer bluish green. They consist of 33 to 35 segments. The comb teeth of the last six to seven segments have grown together to form toothed plates. The forewing upper side is slightly translucent and shimmers light green or golden green, sometimes a faint bluish shimmer is present. The upper side of the hind wing and the underside of the wing are dark gray.

In the males, the valves are heavily sclerotized and have a large, ventral, thorn-like process distally . This is bent inwards at right angles. The aedeagus is strong and has a short, slender cornutus. The 8th abdominal sternite covers only the posterior half of the segment.

In females, the ductus bursae is narrow and only slightly sclerotized. The corpus bursae is spherical. The heavily sclerotized 9th sternite is rectangular and encloses the almost unsclerotized ostium.

Similar species

Adscita statices is larger, has wider fore wings and longer antennae. The similar species does not occur in the middle or south of Spain .

Adscita geryon and Adscita bolivari are somewhat smaller and have narrower and more densely scaled wings. The forewing tops shimmer more intensely. The two similar species appear sympatric with A. jordani in many places, but they fly about a month later.

Adscita schmidti is bigger and much darker. The determination based on external characteristics must becheckedby a genital examination .

distribution

Adscita jordani occurs in Portugal and Spain (with the exception of the northeast and the Pyrenees ). The species inhabits moist grasslands at an altitude of 400 to 2000 meters.

biology

Nothing is currently known about the biology of the species. The moths fly from April (in the lowlands) to August (in the limestone massif Picos de Europa ).
