Aerocancun was a Mexican charter airline based in Cancun . Their ICAO code was ACU .
history
Aerocancun was founded by the Spanish Oasis Group, a hotel group that operated, among other things, the airline Oasis International Airlines . It was founded together with Mexican hoteliers. Flight operations began with the rental of McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft . As needed, rented aircraft were used at Aerocancun and Oasis, which reduced costs. From 1996, Aerocancun was also able to offer charter flights to Europe with an Airbus A310 .
Aerocancun worked with various tour operators, for example Apple Vacations .
The Oasis group disbanded in 1996, which also meant the end of Aerocancun: Aerocancun had to file for bankruptcy.
Destinations
For charter flights, Aerocancun was first used domestically for flights to Cancún , later also in the Caribbean ( St. Martin ), the United States ( e.g. Newark , JFK and San José ), Brazil ( São Paulo ) and European destinations, including Germany ( Hamburg , Tegel ) and Portugal ( Lisbon ).
fleet
From 1990 Aerocancun had its own aircraft. By the time it was dissolved in May 1998, the airline had owned a total of nine different aircraft. It was about
- 5 McDonnell Douglas MD-83 (1990-1993)
- 1 Airbus A 300-600 (1994-1996)
- 1 McDonnell Douglas DC10-10 (1996-1997)
