The San Jose Airport ( english Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport ) is the commercial airport of the city of San Jose in the US state of California and the smallest of the three international airports in the San Francisco Bay Area by the San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport .
Location and transport links
The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport is five kilometers northwest of downtown San José. The California State Route 87 runs east of the airport. Also, Interstate 880 runs south of the airport, while US Highway 101 runs north of the airport.
The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport is integrated into the local public transport system by buses , route 10 of the operator VTA runs to the airport regularly. The VTA Route 10 also connects the airport with the Metro / Airport station of the VTA Light Rail and with the Santa Clara train station , where trains on the Altamont Corridor Express , Amtrak and Caltrain stop.
history
In 1940 the city of San José bought about 200 hectares of land to build an airport there. In 1945, part of this area was leased to a flight school , which built the first runway. In 1965 the first passenger terminal, the former Terminal C, was opened.
In 1988 American Airlines set up a hub at the airport and construction work began on Terminal A, which opened in 1990.
In November 2001, the airport's official name was changed in honor of Norman Mineta . Mineta was Mayor of San José from 1971 to 1975 and Secretary of Transportation in the George W. Bush Cabinet from 2001 to 2006 .
After Terminal B was fully completed, Terminal C was demolished in 2010.

The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport has two parallel runways . They are named 12L / 30R and 12R / 30L, are 3,353 meters long, 46 meters wide and have a concrete surface.

Terminal A
Terminal A is connected to 17 piers equipped. These have the numbers 1 to 16, there is also a gate with the designation 7A. Except for Gate 7A, all gates have passenger boarding bridges .
Terminal B
Concourse B is equipped with 19 piers, these are numbered 17 to 35. Pier number 36 is also under construction. All gates have passenger boarding bridges.
Airlines and Destinations
The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport is used by a total of 13 airlines . By far the largest market share has Southwest Airlines , which carries almost half of the passengers, followed by Alaska Airlines , American Airlines and Delta Air Lines .
From Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport there are almost exclusively point-to-point connections to the major American hubs . There are also some direct connections to the cities of the west coast. There are also long-haul connections to China , Japan and the United Kingdom .
The Lufthansa launched its first flight on July 1, 2016, and offered five times a week from Frankfurt am Main, the first direct connection from or to Europe. The Airbus A340-300 (LH operated by Lufthansa Cityline - an aircraft from the so-called "Jump" project) was used on the route. However, the flights have since been suspended. British Airways also started operating a Boeing 787 from London Heathrow in 2016 and continues to operate them.
