Fixed aeronautical service
The Fixed aeronautical ( English aeronautical fixed service ) is an outdated name for a radio service between fixed points, the first of the safety of air navigation and regular, effective and economic processing of the air traffic is intended.
The relevant radio applications are currently assigned to the fixed radio service in accordance with the current definition of the Radio Service Regulations (VO Radio) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) . In the field of aviation and airlines, however, the term continues to be used as a collective term for certain communication services. For example, the following voice and data networks are currently provided under this name:
- Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN)
- Common ICAO Data Interchange Network (CIDIN)
- Air Traffic Services (ATS) Message Handling System (AMHS)
In contrast to the mobile aeronautical radio service, no radio stations on board aircraft participate in this radio service .
Messages exchanged via AFTN or AMHS include, for example, NOTAMs , flight plans and meteorological data (e.g. METARs ). This radio service remains an important communications service provider for air traffic control ( Air Traffic Control , ATC), the Flight Information Service ( Flight Information Service FIS) and aeronautical information service ( Aeronautical Information Service AIS).
