Aethionema anatolicum is a species of the cruciferous family(Brassicaceae).

description

Aethionema anatolicum is a multi-stemmed, upright and hairless dwarf shrub . At the bottom, the species shows remains of older branches on the stems and is thickly lignified. Stems carrying flowers are 6 to 9 centimeters high, have few leaves and are not brittle. There are 1 to 4 sterile shoots at the bottom. The leaves of these shoots are 3.5 to 7 × 0.7 - 1.2 millimeters in size, opposite, narrow, linear-lanceolate and sitting. The leaves of the flower-bearing stems are 5 to 8 × 1 to 1.5 millimeters in size, alternate, linear to linear-lanceolate, pointed, hairless and slightly stalked to sessile. The lower leaves narrow towards the base.

The inflorescence is a (10) 15-20 flowered cluster . Initially, the inflorescence is compressed, when the plant is fruiting, it elongates slightly. The sepals are 1.5 to 2 millimeters in size, pointed and slightly purple. The petals are 3 to 4 millimeters in size and slightly purple. Your blade is 1.5 to 2 millimeters in size, your nail 1.5 to 2 millimeters. The stamens are straight. The outer ones are 0.2 millimeters long, the inner 0.5 millimeters. The anthers are 0.5 millimeters in size and yellow. When the plant is fruiting, the flower stalks are more or less pressed against the flower axis, upright and 3 to 4 millimeters in size. The fruits are one or two chambers. The pods are spherical and 3.5 to 5 × 3.5 to 5 millimeters in size. The one or two ovules are each solitary. They are at the top and bottom. Their edge is translucent, 1 to 1.5 millimeters wide and serrated. The septum measures 3 to 3.5 × 0.5 millimeters. The stylus are 0.5 millimeters tall and are usually about the size of the sine. The seeds are elliptical, smooth, 1.5 to 1 millimeters in size. The radicle is overhead.

The species blooms in June and fruit in July.

Occurrence

Aethionema anatolicum is an Irano-Turanian floral element. The occurrence of the species is limited to the Aydos Mountains in Konya Province , Turkey. It grows on limestone rocks in crevices. Associated with Aethionema anatolicum come Centaurea anthemifolia , Tanacetum argenteum subsp. flabellifolium , Silene conoidea , Anthemis tinctoria var. pallida , Scandix aucheri , Laserpitium petrophilum , Hesperis kotschyi , Heldreichia rotundifolia , Ferula sp., Potentilla sp., and Ononis sp. in front.

Systematics

Aethionema anatolicum was first described in 2013 by the Turkish botanists Osman Karabacak and Meryem Öztürk as " Aethionema anatolica " based on material collected during excursions from 2008 to 2012 . Because the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants defines neuter as grammatical gender for all genus names ending in “ -nema ”, the name in Aethionema anatolicum must be corrected.
