The sculpture Affentor has been in Bremen - Mitte on the Am Brill square in front of the Sparkasse Bremen since 2007 . It is included in the list of monuments and statues of the city of Bremen .

The bronze sculpture , 6.25 m × 3.8 m × 2 m in size, was made by the sculptor Jörg Immendorff (Düsseldorf). The artist depicted four monkeys in the form of a gate. The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen commented: “Immendorff uses the monkey motif in both his sculptural and painterly work as a metaphor for self-irony, clowning and the role of the artist in the Society. ”Fascinated by the monkey theme, there are works by him on the monkey theme in other places such as Düsseldorf, Hofheim am Taunus , Salzburg, Klagenfurt and also in China.

Immendorff made another monkey sculpture on Bremen's Bahnhofsplatz in Bremen , which was on loan from 2007 to 2012. With around 60 pictures, sculptures and drawings, the 2007 exhibition “ weiter glowing” in the Weserburg presented the great artist Immendorff.

Incidentally, the southernmost city gate in Frankfurt am Main is called the Affentor .
