The Afon Glaslyn (English "River Glaslyn") is a river in the county of Gwynedd in Wales . With a length of about 30 km it is next to the Afon Conwy the most important river in Gwynedd.
The Glaslyn rises from the Karsee Glaslyn (Welsh "Blue Lake") on the east side of Snowdon . It first flows through the Llyn Llydaw, another lake, to the east and turns after a few kilometers to the south and south-west. It then flows through the lakes Llyn Gwynant and Llyn Dinas . The Afon Colwyn flows from the right at Beddgelert .
From here the Glaslyn flows south and crosses the narrow Aberglaslyn Pass . At the bridge Pont Aberglaslyn the river reaches the Traeth Mawr , its former estuary drained at the beginning of the 19th century . The Afon Nanmor and Afon Dylif flow into this flat area from the left .
After flowing through the Traeth Mawr, the Afon Glaslyn reaches the city of Porthmadog , where it is crossed by the Harbor Bridge or Britannia Bridge (not to be confused with the bridge of the same name over the Menai Strait). Then it forms the port of the city and finally flows into Cardigan Bay together with the Afon Dwyryd .
