Agar is a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh .

The city is the administrative seat of the Agar Malwa district, founded in 2013 . The city is divided into 18 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 37,917 inhabitants, of which 19,607 were men and 18,310 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 68%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 80.29%, above the national average.

Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes make up 13.81 percent and 1.30 percent of the total population of Agar, respectively .
