The Agatha fountain is one of St. Agatha consecrated fountain in front of the St. Hedwig Hospital in Berlin-Mitte .

The fountain was designed in 1996 by Jens-Hagen Engelhardt in the Moorish style in the front courtyard of the hospital. A fountain had already stood here from 1890 to 1905. On November 28, 1943, the pastor von Unhold vowed in the chapel of the Hedwig Hospital that a statue of St. To erect Agatha if the hospital is spared war damage. The vow was redeemed on September 14, 1996, to mark the 150th anniversary of the hospital, when the Archbishop of Berlin, Georg Cardinal Sterzinsky , inaugurated the fountain.

A circle and a square were chosen as the ground plan for the fountain . In Christianity the circle symbolizes the universe and eternity , the square the earth and life. The virgin Agatha, who is considered the patron saint against fire and lightning, is depicted with a burning torch. Her hands point to her chest, which is supposed to remind of the nature of her martyrdom .
