Agecroft Hall is a Tudor period mansion that was purchased in 1925 and moved to Richmond, Virginia . It now serves as a museum.

history

The house, which today overlooks the James River, Virginia , originally stood in Pendlebury , Lancashire in a similar location overlooking the River Irwell . It was built at the end of the 15th century and was inhabited by the Langley and Dauntesey families. After a period of decay related to industrialization and coal mining in the vicinity of the building, the house was sold at auction in 1925 to Thomas C. Williams, Jr. of Richmond, who dismantled it and placed it near him Hometown rebuilt. Agecroft Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places today . Immediately adjacent is Virginia House , a country estate with a similar history of overseas relocation and transportation.
