Agenor (son of Phegeus)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Agenor ( Greek  Ἀγήνωρ ) is a figure in Greek mythology .

According to the library of Apollodorus, Agenor was a son of Phegeus , king of the (later so called) city of Psophis in Arcadia and the brother of Pronoos and Arsinoe , whom Alkmaion had taken as husband. Alkmaion left Arsinoë and later wanted to get the collar and the peplos of Harmonia for his second wife Kallirrhoë in Psophis. But at the instigation of his father, Agenor killed the Alkmaion with the help of his brother Pronoos. At the request of Kallirrhoë, Zeus let their sons of Alkmaion, Amphoteros and Akarnan , grow quickly into youths, who in turn killed Agenor and Pronoos, who had wanted to consecrate Harmonias Collar and Peplos in Delphi . Pausanias names the sons of Phegeus Temenos and Axion and their sister Alphesiboia .
