Aglaostigma aucupariae is a plant wasp from the family of Real sawflies (Tenthredinidae).

features

The species reaches a body length of 7 to 9 millimeters. The plant wasp has a black basic color. Halfway along the abdomen is a wide orange transverse ligament. A yellow line drawing runs along the sides of the pronotum. The eyes are rimmed on the inside by a narrow yellow line. The underside of the outer sensor elements is orange. The coxae are dark. Femora and tibia are predominantly red or red-yellow. The posterior tarsi are mostly dark. The forewings have a dark brown-yellow wing mark .

Similar species

  • Aglaostigma fulvipes - the orange transverse band does not reach the underside of the abdomen; there is a white longitudinal band on the sides of the abdomen.

distribution

The species is widespread in Europe and is considered common. Their occurrence extends in the north to Great Britain , there mainly in England, as well as to Scandinavia (Sweden) and the Baltic States .

Way of life

The plant wasps can be seen in spring from March to June. Forest edges and hedges form their typical habitat. The plant wasps feed on the pollen and nectar of various plants such as meadow chervil or cypress wolf milk . The nocturnal larvae feed on the leaves of Nordic bedstraw ( Galium boreale ) and meadow bedstraw ( Galium mollugo ).
