Agnes Hoppin

Agnes Clark Hoppin (born September 26, 1874 in Providence , Rhode Island , † February 27, 1898 ) was the daughter of the doctor Courtland Hoppin (1834-1876) and Mary Frances Clark. She had four siblings Eleanor, Sarah Dunn, Joseph, and Thomas Courtland. Her father died when she was only two years old. She herself died at the age of 23 and was buried in Swen Point Cemetery in her hometown of Providence .

Her mother, sister Sarah Dunn, and brother Joseph donated the Agnes Hoppin Memorial Fellowship Scholarship in her honor, which was intended to enable young women to study at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens , which was only awarded from 1898 to 1904.
