Agnes II of Nevers (* around 1205, † 1225 ), also called Agnes von Donzy , was Countess of Tonnerre , Auxerre and Nevers in her own right .

Life

Agnes was born as the second child and only daughter of Hervé IV. De Donzy from the Semur family and his wife Mathilde von Courtenay . Since her older brother died at a young age, she became the heir to the family, which fell to Saint-Aignan, Donzy , Montmirail, Perche-Gouet , Cosne and the counties of Tonnerre, Auxerre and Nevers when her father died in 1222 .

Since Agnes' father had fought on the side of the English in the Battle of Bouvines on July 27, 1214 and thus the loser, he had to declare himself ready to the French King Philippe-Auguste in September 1217 , his heir daughter with his grandson Philip, the son of the later King Louis VIII. , to be engaged. Due to the young groom's early death in 1218, the wedding never took place.

Instead, Agnes married Guido IV of Châtillon in 1221 , who had been Count of Saint-Pol as Guido I since 1219 and ceded the city of Pont-Sainte-Maxence to the French crown for permission to marry . A request submitted to the Pope by relatives who were interested in the dissolution of the marriage to annul the marriage because the spouses were too close did not go through. The children of Agnes and Guido IV were:

Agnes died very young in 1225 and her husband Guido IV of Châtillon died in August 1226. The couple's two young children were then raised by their maternal grandmother, Mathilde von Courtenay. Since Agnes' son Gaucher died childless, the three counties were lost to his daughter Jolanthe and thus to the House of Châtillon .
